| About TRIT |
| The Tea Research Institute of Tanzania (TRIT) was established in 1996 as an autonomous organisation representing the Government of Tanzania and the Tea industry.
TRIT aims to support the development of both small and large scale producers through appropriate, cost effective, high quality research and technology transfer, to ensure the sustainability of the industry. |
TRIT operates FOUR Research Programmes which represents key priority themes in the Tanzania Tea Industry. The Research programmes fall under the following headings
- Crop improvement
- Soil Fertility Management
- Crop Water Management
- Technology Transfer
| Economics and Social aspects are considered as an overreaching subject, for use when interpreting the results of research, and not a research subject on its own. Quality studies are particularly aimed at plant improvement feedback. TRIT will continue to play a role in coordinating activities on mechanisation undertaken by the estates sector and maintaining a database. |
| TRIT has initiated and is keen to develop collaborative activities with various institutions in both the developing and developed world. |
TRIT has signed an MoU with the Tea Research foundation of Kenya and Tea Research foundation of Central Africa. Whereby TRIT is able to share research materials especially clones developed by the two institutes. In exchange, TRIT is able to provide information on water use and technology transfer, the area where TRIT has comparative advantage
